Dear Friend, If your home is like mine, you occasionally have conflict between the adults and the kids. "You're being disrespectful right now" or "you can try that again, but this time with respect" Have you ever said that to your child? I have! Why do we say that as parents? Notice how it’s not a question of love. It’s about respect. But why? It’s part of the biblical model echoed in the Old Testament and New Testament. In Ephesians 6, the Apostle Paul succinctly lays out the parent/child relationship, while quoting from Exodus and Deuteronomy in which God gave Moses the law for His chosen people. Paul reminds the new believers in Ephesus: “Children, obey your father and mother. Parents, don’t provoke your children, but raise them in the discipline and instruction of the LORD.” Children respond to love and end up giving respect. Parents respond to respect and end up giving love. This relationship dynamic is timeless and part of God’s design — way back then and today. So no matter what our circumstances are, love and respect are powerfully important for your family and mine! That’s why I recommend you read Love & Respect in the Family by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. In this book, Dr. Eggerichs shares how God has created a relationship structure that addresses the needs of both the kids and the parents in a family. He also shares practical, everyday advice for growing understanding, love, and respect in your home. Dr. Eggerichs has studied the family dynamic for more than 30 years and has a Ph.D. in Child and Family Ecology. As a senior pastor for nearly two decades, he uses biblical principles to help you see family relationships in a new way. For instance, he offers Bible-based advice on how to defuse kids' craziness from a preschool age to the teen years, plus how to motivate them to obey your instructions, and how to address them when they don't. I would love to send you this practical book today for a gift of any amount. I am confident that you will be encouraged by it and find helpful principles that you can immediately apply in your own parenting.
