Movies Update: 'The Photograph,' 'Downhill' and More

Plus, Valentine's Day streaming options.

Hey, movie fans!

Have you recovered from Oscars Sunday yet? I’ve been a little zonked this week in the aftermath, but boy, was it worth it. It was an incredible experience to be inside the Dolby Theater as history was made, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the sound of thousands of people in the audience losing their minds when “Parasite” was declared the winner.

That victory sent a charge of electricity through all the after-parties, particularly the special late-night soiree for “Parasite” at Soho House, where the cast of the film and the director Bong Joon Ho were hailed as conquering heroes. The only drawback to the “Parasite” party was that the last-minute decision to scuttle a planned karaoke corner, even though Bong told me before the Oscars that he does a great rendition of “My Way.” I suppose once you’ve won that many Academy Awards, you’ve known highs even greater than karaoke can provide.

This week’s major movie releases include the video-game adaptation “Sonic the Hedgehog” as well as several romances just in time for Valentine’s Day: Lakeith Stanfield woos Issa Rae in “The Photograph,” Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville play a married couple facing crisis in “Ordinary Love,” Adèle Haenel and Noémie Merlant portray an aristocrat and an artist in love in Céline Sciamma’s “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” while Netflix’s “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You” gives its heroine Lana Condor a new love triangle to mull over. And if you’re looking for something more bitter and less sweet, “Downhill” pits Julia Louis-Dreyfus against Will Ferrell after he commits a cowardly act while their family is on vacation.
