Sunday Best: Long live America?

The experiment isn't over.

Happy Independence Day, America. I may be a Brit, but as I'm rather fond of my colleagues across the pond, I thought I'd raise a Bud (or two) to you today. And I hope that you are also, in some way, celebrating with friends and loved ones.

But beyond the partying, the fireworks and the copious amount of hot dogs, can America use this day as an opportunity to move forward?

We certainly hope so. That's why Times Opinion is kicking off a series that explores how the country could use this July 4 to revitalize the American experiment, to remember the fervor of its formative years and tackle some of the challenges that have been plaguing the country for years. After all, the experiment hasn't ended. "The future," as Daniel Immerwahr says, "is open."
