A look back at President Biden's first year.
How are Americans feeling one year after President Biden's inauguration? |
"I'm 66, so I have seen this country in lots of ups and downs, and I feel this is the lowest point in my lifetime," said an independent voter in a focus group recently convened by Times Opinion. The writer Matthew Yglesias notes that even the president's supporters aren't much chirpier. Whether they think he's gone too far in some areas or he hasn't gone far enough in others, one thing is clear: "President Biden's first year in office has been frustrating," Yglesias says. |
Still, there's hope for the country yet. "Though our fears may be the same, we are not," writes the 2021 inaugural poet, Amanda Gorman. "Even as we've grieved, we've grown; even fatigued we've found that this hill we climb is one we must mount together. We are battered, but bolder; worn, but wiser." |
