Greetings, movie fans! Here's what's happening out there.
If you just can't wait to be at the new "Lion King," you're in luck. The digitally animated remake has roared onto as many screens as imaginable. Our critic weighed in last week, but this week we spoke with Chance the Rapper, who poured out his love for the 1994 film and discussed his work on the latest version. We looked back at the big risks Disney took to make the original. And for the Beyoncé fans out there wondering just how much of her is in the movie, we counted her lines.
The week also brought a couple of high-profile movie trailers and, for better or worse, the '80s are back. There's "Top Gun: Maverick," returning Tom Cruise to the pilot's seat after 33 years. And there's Tom Hooper's big-screen Taylor Swift-Jennifer Hudson-starring "Cats." One of these trailers the internet liked. The other got left all alone in the moonlight.
Comic-Con is in full force in San Diego, celebrating its 50th anniversary with splashy presentations and splashier costumes. This weekend is also the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. We have a few tips on what to watch and listen to, what to stream, as well as what to do to celebrate.
Also opening in wide release this weekend, is well, nothing. The other studios are bowing at Pride Rock. But in limited release, you can check out a new David Crosby documentary, Joe Manganiello in a minor-league baseball drama, a French love-triangle farce with Louis Garrel and a documentary about a glamourous gay Mexican wrestler. Stay cool at the movies.

The animated original was hardly the anticipated film the remake is now. But that release 25 years ago changed so much for Disney — and Hollywood.
